Who can apply

A- Candidates Whose Applications Will Be Accepted

a) Provided they are in their final year of high school or have already graduated;

1) Foreign nationals (provided they are not currently studying or have not graduated from secondary education institutions (high school) in Türkiye [excluding embassy schools, international private educational institutions listed in the MOBIS system, and foreign nationals brought to our country within the framework of projects carried out by the Ministry of National Education]).

2) Those who were born Turkish citizens but lost their Turkish citizenship by obtaining permission from the Ministry of Interior to renounce it, and those who can document that they are holders of a blue card issued to those who have lost their Turkish citizenship upon request (provided that they are not studying or have not graduated from secondary education (high school) institutions in Türkiye and the TRNC) (Article 7 of the Turkish Citizenship Law No. 5901 states that "(1) A child born within or outside Türkiye to a Turkish citizen mother or father within a marriage is a Turkish citizen." It is advisable for candidates applying to the quotas for admission from abroad to review the Turkish Citizenship Law.)

3) Those of Balkan nationality who completed/graduated from high schools in Türkiye; (excluding dual citizens residing in Türkiye whose one nationality is Turkish and who also holds nationality of one of the Balkan countries, those who have lost their Turkish citizenship by obtaining permission from the Ministry of Interior to renounce Turkish citizenship, and those who can document that they are holders of a blue card issued upon request to those who have lost their Turkish citizenship)

4) Those who acquired Turkish citizenship later while being foreign nationals / dual nationals in this situation (provided that they are not studying or have not graduated from secondary education (high school) institutions in Türkiye and the TRNC)

5) Turkish citizens who have completed their entire secondary education (high school) in a foreign country other than the TRNC (including those who completed their entire secondary education [high school] in Turkish schools opened under the Ministry of National Education in a foreign country outside the TRNC)

6) Applications will be accepted from those who are citizens of the TRNC, reside in the TRNC, have completed their secondary education (high school) in the TRNC (excluding those who completed their secondary education in high schools applying the Turkish curriculum in the TRNC) and possess GCE AL exam results, as well as those who enrolled in and received education at colleges and high schools in other countries between 2005-2010 and possess/will possess GCE AL exam results, or those who are citizens of the TRNC and have completed their entire secondary education (high school) in a foreign country and possess/will possess exam results in groups A, B, or C.

B- Candidates Whose Applications Will Not Be Accepted

1) Those who are Turkish citizens and have completed their entire secondary education (high school) in Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,

2) Those who are citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (excluding those who completed their entire secondary education (high school) in high schools in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and have GCE AL results, those who enrolled and received education in colleges and high schools in other countries between 2005-2010 and have/will have GCE AL exam results, or those who are citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and completed their entire secondary education (high school) in a foreign country and have TR-YÖS results),

3) Dual citizens whose first nationality by birth is Turkish, as defined in clause 2 of article a, (excluding those who meet the conditions in clause 4 of article a)

4) Dual nationals whose one nationality is TRNC (excluding those who completed their entire secondary education (high school) in TRNC high schools and have GCE AL results, those who enrolled and received education in colleges and high schools in other countries between 2005-2010 and have/will have GCE AL exam results, or those who are TRNC citizens and completed their entire secondary education (high school) in a foreign country and have TR-YÖS results),

5) Turkish citizens or dual citizens whose first nationality by birth is Turkish, as defined in clause 2 of article a), who are receiving education in schools within embassies in Türkiye or in foreign high schools located in Türkiye.

6) a) TRNC citizens studying in or having graduated from secondary education (high school) institutions in Türkiye  and the TRNC, and those who have renounced Turkish citizenship/Holders of the Blue Card.

b) Foreign nationals currently studying or who have graduated from secondary education institutions (high school) in Türkiye (excluding embassy schools, international private educational institutions listed in the MOBIS system, and foreign nationals brought to our country within the framework of projects carried out by the Ministry of National Education)

5. Detailed Population Registration Certificate (To be uploaded by candidates who are Turkish citizens, have renounced Turkish citizenship, or have renounced Turkish citizenship and obtained a blue card.)

6. Document proving completion of all secondary education (high school) abroad and security or passport records showing entry and exit from Türkiye (This document must be uploaded by Turkish citizens, those who have renounced Turkish citizenship, or those who have renounced Turkish citizenship and obtained a blue card, who have graduated/will graduate from a formal education institution or an open education program abroad, excluding the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. A certified document from their school confirming completion of all secondary education abroad and security or passport records showing entry and exit from Türkiye)

7. Residence Permit [(For candidates from Balkan countries who completed/graduated from high schools in Türkiye and whose one nationality is Turkish, those who have renounced Turkish citizenship, and those who have renounced Turkish citizenship and obtained a blue card, a document issued by the relevant authorities stating that they do not reside in Turkey) and (For candidates who are citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and apply with a GCE AL exam result, a document issued by the official authorities stating that they reside in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.)]

8. Pish Danishgahi Certificate (To be uploaded by graduates of general and vocational high schools (Debiristan, Huneristan, Kar, and Danish) in Iran until the end of the 2017-2018 academic year.)

Certificate of equivalence indicating completion of secondary education equivalent to Turkish high schools (Required for Turkish citizens who have completed their secondary education in schools abroad not affiliated with the Ministry of National Education and in international schools in Türkiye).

 

10. If applicable, a document showing at least B2 level of Turkish language proficiency (Not required for students who have graduated from high schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Türkiye or whose program language is 100% English or Russian).

Students accepted to the university programs with the Turkish language as the language of instruction, must certify their Turkish language proficiency to begin their education. The Turkish language proficiency levels accepted by the University are shown in the table below:

- Documents to certify the Turkish language proficiency levels can be the ?Certificate of Turkish Language Proficiency? by KTU TOMER (Karadeniz Technical University Turkish Language Teaching, Application, and Research Center), TOMER certificates of other universities or Yunus Emre Institute?s TKS (Turkish Proficiency Exam). Students with B2, C1, and C2 levels will begin their studies in the programs they enrol in.
- Students who enrol in the programs with a B2 Turkish level must document that they have increased their Turkish level to C1 or C2 level by the beginning of the third academic year at the latest. Those who cannot increase their Turkish level to C1 or C2 level until the beginning of the third academic year at the latest cannot continue their education until they increase their language level to C1 or C2 level.
- Students who do not have a Turkish Language Proficiency certificate or whose Turkish level is A1, A2, and B1 cannot start their education. These students are considered to be on leave for one year to receive Turkish preparatory education. During this period, students are supposed to learn Turkish. Students who prove a sufficient level of Turkish according to the second and third paragraphs of this article can start their education in the program they are placed in.
- Students who enrol in university programs with a mixed language of instruction (Turkish and a certain foreign language) are given an additional year to take Turkish language training after their foreign language preparatory education. Students who exceed two years to complete their Turkish language and foreign language training will be deregistered.
- Students are obliged to submit their Turkish language proficiency documents to the Student Affairs Office before the course registration dates specified in the academic calendar.
- For those, who have completed their high school education in a school in Türkiye or completed their education at a Turkish high school abroad, any Turkish Proficiency Certificate is not required.

- To enrol study in the departments with the English language as a medium of instruction (30% or 100%), students are supposed to document an English language proficiency certificate or take the English proficiency exam conducted by our university.

Criteria for Language Preparation Class Exemption

- For the departments with 30% English as the medium of instruction, the minimum score for exemption from language preparation class is 60.
- For the departments with 100% English as the medium of instruction, the minimum score for exemption from language preparation class is 70.
- Students who completed their high school education in a country where English is the native language within three years before the application date to the university are not supposed to prove their English language proficiency with any exam score.
