Karadeniz Technical University Department of Turkish Language and Literature started its educational activities at the undergraduate level within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in 1994, consisting of five departments: Old Turkish Language, New Turkish Language, Old Turkish Literature, New Turkish Literature and Turkish Folk Literature. By opening Master's Degree programs in 1998 and Doctorate programs in 2009, the aim of training faculty members was added to education and training activities.
The aim of the department program is to evaluate Turkish Language and Literature materials in a literary and philological context from the beginning to the present and to provide students with them; To teach the value and importance of these products in the formation and development of Turkish culture at an academic level; Conducting scientific studies whose results add value to society; To train the scientists, experts and teachers that the country needs in the field of Turkish Language and Literature by empowering them with knowledge and experience. Throughout their education, students experience a two-stage change and transformation: academic studies in line with these basic goals and activities that will ensure individual and social development. Transferring data from the field of Turkish Language and Literature in a historical and geographical context is among the main objectives; As a result of educational programs in which learning knowledge and acquiring behavior proceed in parallel, individuals who have received a qualified education, have high oratory skills, are aware of their social duties, and who consider it their duty to contribute to their environment are tried to be brought to the universe.
Considering that in an age where the rate of obsolescence of knowledge is very high and the rate of renewal is high, knowing the ways and practices of acquiring knowledge is more important than the acquired knowledge itself, attention is paid to keeping the program up to date, preparing the courses to meet new needs, and adapting the course contents to new developments. Undergraduate, Master's and Doctoral programs are supported by theoretical and applied courses, internal and external activities, conferences and panels.
In the department, academic guidance is provided within the framework of infrastructure and opportunities for students to achieve their goals throughout their education process, to form their career plans and to develop their academic infrastructure; Adhering to national, religious and human values in order to complete the curriculum in the course contents; compatible with universal developments and changes in the world; can take responsibility for themselves, their nation and humanity; Achieving all goals and objectives in the name of being HUMAN; Efforts are made to help them become open, original, balanced intellectuals and academics.
