Karadeniz Technical University was the first university established outside Ankara and Istanbul with the law dated May 20, 1955, and numbered 6594. The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, which is one of the first faculties at the university, started education on December 2, 1963. It started to give its first graduates in 1968 and continues to raise new engineers. As the Department of Civil Engineering, we continue our academic and engineering activities with our outstanding achievements in Türkiye and abroad by constantly improving our mission and vision.
We play an active role in solving problems with education, scientific studies, and engineering thanks to our distinguished academic staff consisting of 22 Professors, 5 Associate Professors, 11 Assistant Professors, 2 Lecturers, 19 Research Assistants, and 14 administrative staff.
Our department is among the civil engineering departments with the largest indoor areas, including the main building, computer laboratory, structural and material laboratory building, hydraulic laboratory building, geotechnical and transportation laboratory building, and structural health monitoring laboratory building. In addition to academic research, experiments are carried out in these laboratories in which our students take an active role in reinforcing theoretical lessons.
We are always at the forefront of our students’ activities. The degrees we receive in student competitions prove the value and support we give our students. As student clubs, the Young Civil Engineers Union and the Construction Club actively work and organize talks and trips with technical and social content. In addition, we have kept in touch with our alumni with the help of our alumni association, which we established in 2015. We are in constant contact with our Chamber of Civil Engineers. We receive support and opinions from external consultants for our students' graduation projects.
Our department cares about external evaluations, which are required by the quality assurance policy of our university (https://www.ktu.edu.tr/yonetim/kalitepolitikamiz). In this context, our Department is accredited by the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Program (MÜDEK) (https://www.mudek.org.tr/tr/akredit/akredite2022.shtm).
Students who want to study in the Double Major and Minor Programs can have a second diploma in any of the departments reporting to the Faculty of Engineering, in the Department of Architecture under the Faculty of Architecture, and in the Physics Department under the Faculty of Science with the Double Major program. In addition, students can earn a certificate by taking a limited number of courses in a second program with a Minor program (https://www.ktu.edu.tr/dosyalar/oidb_a92ec.pdf).
I would like you to know that we are working hard to fulfill our responsibilities in order to provide you, our esteemed students, with the knowledge and skills you will need both in your academic and working life. In line with our endeavor, we are ready to give you all kinds of support.
We give education with our Turkish (https://yokatlas.yok.gov.tr/lisans.php?y=106210371) and English (https://yokatlas.yok.gov.tr/lisans.php?y=106211069) medium of instruction programs. We are a well-established university with a corporate identity (https://www.ktu.edu.tr/kik/kurumsalkimlikrehberi) that includes the concepts of Human, Science, and the Universe in order for you to be useful to our country and your families with our deep-rooted department tradition. I invite you to our department, which is a vital component of our university.
