Industrial Engineering (IE) has a wide field of work both in the manufacturing industry and in all service sectors. For example; industrial engineers can work in a wide range of sectors such as workplace regulation, production planning, quality management, system analysis, business science, ergonomics, health care, transportation, logistics, banking, information processing, management systems. Industrial engineering can solve the problems encountered in all these sectors by developing systems, models, and methods.
While developing solutions to problems, they benefit from basic sciences, engineering sciences, behavioral sciences, statistics and information sciences. It is not enough to make a single definition of industrial engineering by considering all working areas. For this reason, it is plausible to define IE as a branch of engineering that deals with the design, establishment, development, and management of systems producing products or services.
Industrial engineers try to find the optimal solutions to the problems by using human, machine, material, money, energy, and information resources efficiently.
