Commemoration Ceremony Held at Our University on National Unity and Democracy Day

On July 10, 2025, our university hosted a commemorative event titled “The Name of Victory: Türkiye” in honor of National Unity and Democracy Day. The program began with a moment of silence, the national anthem, and a Quran recitation by the 2023 TRT Quran Recitation Champion Muhammet Saka, setting a respectful tone for the remembrance.

Speakers, including our Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, Trabzon Governor Aziz YILDIRIM, and Acting Mayor Ahmet Yüksel GÜLAY, highlighted the resilience and unity of the Turkish people during the July 15, 2016 coup attempt. They praised the nation’s bravery in defending democracy, emphasizing that this spirit reflects a century-long commitment to protecting Türkiye’s independence and territorial integrity.

Dr. Murat YILMAZ, a member of the Presidential Social Policies Council, delivered a powerful talk underscoring that coups are never truly national or patriotic acts, as they rely on foreign backing. He stressed the heroism of soldiers, police, officials, and citizens who fought bravely to protect the country on that night, marking it as a defining moment in Türkiye’s history.

The event concluded with a poetry recital and a photo exhibition displaying newspaper front pages related to the coup attempt, serving as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made. The program honored martyrs and veterans while reinforcing the nation’s unyielding dedication to democracy and unity.
