Dear Prospective Students,

As you embark on the journey of stepping into university life, you are now facing a stage that will somewhat determine your future career path. Making the right decision at this stage is indeed crucial for you. I'd like to provide you with some information regarding the maritime profession:

Maritime industry is a profession that highlights research-oriented, managerial, and leadership qualities, which have been prominent throughout history. It also demands the ability to make decisions in the face of challenges. Those who choose this profession should have a passion for travel and be able to adapt to different cultures. Working conditions on ships, which are the primary workplace, can be demanding and exhausting. Captaincy, being an esteemed and respected profession, can provide a high income, and there are no difficulties in finding employment opportunities. Graduates typically start working on Turkish and foreign-flagged vessels right after completing their education.

Graduates of our department can work both onboard ships and in the maritime sector on land. Currently, our alumni are employed as Maritime Survey Engineers, Port State Inspectors in Ports, Agencies, Shipping Companies, and at the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs.

Students who successfully pass the university entrance exam for our department need to obtain a "Seafarer’s Health Examination Certificate" to enroll. Those who are unable to obtain the Seafarer’s Health Examination Certificate due to reasons such as color blindness are placed into a lower preference on the application form by ÖSYM within the same period. Students who complete their registration can take the exam conducted by the KTU School of Foreign Languages. Successful students in this exam can directly enroll in the first year. Students who are unsuccessful or wish to study in the preparatory class will attend the English Preparatory class for one year.

Throughout the four-year undergraduate program, students are required to wear uniforms. Residence in dormitories is not compulsory in the KTU Department of Maritime Transportation Engineering. However, students who wish to do so can stay in dormitories affiliated with the Credit and Dormitories Institution.
