The opening ceremony took place at the Trabzon Vocational School’s Akçaabat campus. It was attended by KTU Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Akif CİNEL and Halil İbrahim OKUMUŞ, Akçaabat Deputy Mayor Cevdet BAYRAKTAR, Trabzon Vocational School Director Prof. Dr. İlhan DENİZ, Dean of Trabzon University’s Faculty of Fine Arts Prof. Dr. Raif KALYONCU, Akçaabat City Council President Mehmet Salih KÖSE, Akçaabat Foundation Board Member and President of the Association at Paris Bülent CUMUR, along with administrative and academic staff.
In his speech at the opening ceremony, Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI emphasized the historical significance of the university, highlighting KTU’s notable achievements in education, research, and community service. He stressed the necessity of adapting to the rapid changes and competitive environment in technology as outlined in the 2024-2028 Strategic Plan, and expressed how the university has swiftly responded to this transformation. Prof. Dr. ÇUVALCI thanked the management team for their efforts in establishing these laboratories and underscored the importance of utilizing the existing infrastructure to continue advancing KTU's vision of becoming a leading research university. He requested that these new laboratories remain open outside of working hours to facilitate ongoing student and researcher access.
Trabzon Vocational School Director Prof. Dr. İlhan DENİZ also spoke at the opening, stating, “These laboratories will not only strengthen KTU’s academic potential but will also contribute to our strategic goals for the 2024-2028 period. By increasing our attractiveness, we will enhance the national and international competitiveness of our students and researchers. We aim to enrich student-centered education and Project-Based Learning, actively involving our students in R&D activities. By promoting interaction and collaboration in research, we seek to build strong relationships with our academic and industrial partners and develop joint projects. Additionally, by supporting the research student model, we will ensure that our students develop research skills at an early stage.”
Four New Laboratories to Enhance Academic Performance
The Machine Laboratory, equipped for students in the Machine and Metal Technologies department, will support the practical application of theoretical knowledge with CNC machines and other equipment. The Additive Manufacturing Laboratory, furnished with 3D printers, is designed for the realization of 3D designs and the learning of additive manufacturing techniques. The Power Electronics Laboratory, intended for students in the Electrical and Energy Department, will reinforce theoretical knowledge through practical application. Lastly, the Computer Technologies Laboratory, tailored to support the education of students in the Computer Technologies department, is equipped with modern technologies. This enables students to both reinforce their theoretical knowledge and develop solutions to real-world problems.
Following the opening ceremony, a Research University Roadmap and Academic Performance Evaluation Meeting was chaired by Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI along with the management of Trabzon Vocational School. The meeting focused on the success, goals, and growth potential of Trabzon Vocational School.
