On the 504th anniversary of the death of Yavuz Sultan Selim, the 9th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, a panel was organized in collaboration with our university and Trabzon University. The event took place at the Prof. Dr. Osman Turan Culture and Congress Center, attended by various dignitaries, including university officials, military commanders, and academics.

The program began with a moment of silence and the reading of the national anthem. Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI highlighted Yavuz Sultan Selim’s significant role in world history and his connections to Trabzon, emphasizing how his early administrative experiences in the city shaped his future reign. Trabzon Governor Aziz YILDIRIM also spoke about the profound impact of Yavuz Sultan Selim on Ottoman history, especially noting his contributions as a leader and strategist.

The program included presentations on Yavuz Sultan Selim’s life, his role in Ottoman governance, and his literary contributions. It concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the speakers and a group photo.
