IP and the SDGs: Building our common future with innovation and creativity

World Intellectual Property Day is observed annually on April 26. The event was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000 to

• "raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life" and
• "to celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of economies and societies across the globe". 

Worldwide awareness activities carried out by the World Intellectual Property Organization, of which our country is a member, are carried out in our country under the leadership of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.

In our country, studies are carried out to raise awareness about how patents, copyrights, trademarks and designs affect daily life, which is the founding goal of the Organization, and to increase the number of inventors with increased awareness in our country.

The theme of World Intellectual Property Day 2024 is focused on 'Intellectual Property and Sustainable Development Goals: Building our common future with innovation and creativity'.

World Intellectual Property Day 2024 creates an opportunity to explore how intellectual property (IP) can stimulate and strengthen the innovative and creative solutions that are crucial to building our shared future by paying attention on SDGs.

The intensity of the 'changemaker' hastag in the 2024 theme reveals the goal of bringing in talented inventors and entrepreneurs who cumulatively inspire the intellectual and industrial property rights ecosystem every year.
