"IP Commercialization in Academia - SCALE UP Your IP" Project at Karadeniz Technical University
In order to encourage the commercialization of academic inventions, the "IP Commercialization in Academia – SCALE UP Your IP" Project, which has implemented in cooperation with the KTU Technology Transfer Application and Research Center (KTU TTM), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT), introduced with the launch program held at the Central Reşit Tarakçıoğlu Hall. KTU has chosen as the pilot university for the project, which is a first in Turkey.

Zeki Durak, Consuls of the Turkish Republic of Iran and Northern Cyprus, KTÜ Rector Prof. Hamdullah Çuvalcı, Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Erkut Çelebi, academicians, students and industry representatives in the region attended.
Comprehensive trainings were organized by WIPO commercialization experts in the project, which was hosted by our University for the first time in Turkey. Training that supports spinoffs to maximize their valuations and scale their intellectual property (IP) portfolios; It aims to close the gap between laboratory research and market success and support startups to optimize their patent strategies.
Under the two (2) full days of training with the participation of 40 spinoff companies, with a scaling program (Scale UP Your IP) aims;
At the closing ceremony, Rector Prof. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI expressed gratitude to the participants and emphasized both the importance of patented technologies and the commercialization of these technologies.
The participants received their certificates from Rector Prof. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, WIPO Division for Transition and Developed Countries Director Prof. Habip Asan, Head of the ‘’Department of Commercialization of Intellectual Property” Allison MAGES and KTU TTM Manager Lect. Emrah AYVAZ.
